A little preparation protects the appliance and the van:
- Empty the fridge and freezer completely, ideally a day ahead
- Switch it off and leave the doors open for several hours to defrost
- Mop up meltwater and dry the inside so nothing leaks in transit
- Take out loose shelves, drawers and ice trays and pack them separately
- Tape the doors shut, or let us secure them with straps
- For plumbed in American style models, turn off the water supply and disconnect the water line

How we handle fridge freezer moving in Dublin

If it absolutely has to be tilted to fit through a doorway, we keep the angle as small and brief as possible.
American style fridge freezers can be wider than standard doorways. Measure the fridge and the narrowest door on the route before moving day. Sometimes the doors need to come off the fridge, or the kitchen door off its hinges, to get it through.
After the move: switching it back on
The general advice is to let a fridge freezer stand upright for a few hours before switching it on, and longer if it was tilted. This allows the oil in the compressor to settle back where it should be. Check your manual, as manufacturers give their own guidance. Once on, give it a few hours to cool fully before putting food back in.
