Gym equipment moving in Dublin takes planning. Treadmills are heavy and awkward, squat racks come apart into long steel sections, and a set of plates and dumbbells can weigh more than the rest of a flat. At Moving Service Dublin we move home gym equipment for people moving house, setting up a garage gym or buying second hand kit from a seller across the city.

See our services, or our furniture removals page for other heavy items.

Gym equipment moving in Dublin: what we move

  • Treadmills, folding and non folding
  • Exercise bikes, spin bikes and rowing machines
  • Cross trainers and elliptical machines
  • Squat racks, power racks and cable machines
  • Benches, plates, barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells
  • Rubber gym flooring and mats

Preparing your treadmill and cardio machines

Treadmills are usually the heaviest item in a home gym. If yours folds, lock it in the folded position using the safety latch. If it does not fold, it may need the console or arms removed so it fits through doorways. Check the manual or the manufacturer's website for instructions.

  • Unplug the machine and wrap the power cable
  • Remove the safety key and keep it somewhere safe
  • Take off loose parts like water bottle holders and tablet stands
  • Lower the incline to flat before moving

Rowing machines often split in two or fold upright. Spin bikes and exercise bikes usually have transport wheels at the front, which help on flat ground, though we still carry them on stairs.

Racks, weights and heavy steel

Power racks and squat racks should be taken apart for moving, as they are too tall and heavy to move assembled. Keep the bolts in labelled bags and take photos before dismantling to make rebuilding easier. Weight plates and dumbbells should be packed in small, strong boxes or crates, not large boxes that become impossible to lift. Loose plates can also be stacked flat on the van floor and strapped down.

We wrap gym equipment in blankets to protect both the kit and your walls and floors on the way out. Everything is strapped securely in the van, because heavy steel that shifts during braking can damage other items.

Garage gyms and tricky access

Many home gyms in Dublin are in garages, garden rooms or converted sheds, while apartment gyms may involve lifts and long corridors. Let us know the access at both ends, including any steps or narrow side passages, so we can plan the move properly.

Moving commercial grade equipment

Some home gyms now include commercial grade treadmills and cable machines that weigh well over a hundred kilos. These may need extra hands or specialist equipment beyond a single van and driver. Send us the make and model when you ask for a quote and we will tell you honestly whether it is a job we can take on safely.

Buying second hand gym kit

If you have bought gym equipment from an online seller, we can collect it, help dismantle it at their home and deliver it to yours.
