This moving house checklist for Dublin is the one we wish every customer had before their move. At Moving Service Dublin we see the same small things catch people out time and again: no parking outside, the broadband not booked, the washing machine still plumbed in. Work through this list and moving day will be far calmer.
When you are ready to book, see our services or our house removals in Dublin page.
Eight to six weeks before
- Confirm your moving date with your landlord, solicitor or estate agent
- Get a fixed price removals quote and book your date, especially for Fridays, month ends and the end of the academic year
- Start clearing out the attic, shed, garage and spare room
- Donate, sell or recycle what you do not want to bring
- If renting, read your lease for notice periods and check out requirements
- Measure large furniture and the doorways at your new home
Four weeks before
- Book broadband installation at the new address, since this can take weeks in parts of Dublin
- Contact your electricity and gas suppliers to arrange closing and opening readings
- Arrange bin collection at the new property with the local waste provider
- Gather boxes, tape and markers and begin packing rooms you use least
- Tell your employer, GP, dentist and children's schools about the move
- Check if your new apartment block needs a booked lift slot or certificate of insurance
Two weeks before
- Redirect your post with An Post's redirection service
- Update your address with Revenue, your bank, insurance providers and the NDLS for your driving licence
- Check the parking at both addresses and ask neighbours or the council about permits if needed
- Use up frozen food and plan simple meals for the last few days
- Confirm the time with your removals company
