Kilkenny is close enough to Dublin for a day trip and far enough to feel like a real change of pace, which is why so many people make the move. Our removals Dublin to Kilkenny service gets you there without the stress of hiring a van and doing it yourself. Moving Service Dublin handles the loading, driving and unloading in one day.
It is part of our long distance removals work, and you can see our services for everything else we offer.
Getting from Dublin to Kilkenny
We take the M50 to the M7, then switch to the M9 near Naas and head south past Carlow. Kilkenny city is just off the motorway, and the drive usually takes somewhere around an hour and a half from most of Dublin. Towns like Thomastown, Callan, Castlecomer and Graiguenamanagh add a little time on regional roads.
Because the journey is relatively short for a long distance move, we can often load a one or two bed home in the morning, unload in Kilkenny by early afternoon, and have beds put back together before evening.
If you are moving out of an apartment in Dublin, we will sort timings around your lift booking at that end, then drive straight down. That way nothing sits in the van longer than it needs to, and there is no overnight stop or transfer between vehicles.
What a Kilkenny move includes
- A fixed price quote covering the full trip, agreed in advance
- Furniture wrapped in blankets and strapped securely in the van
- Dismantling and reassembly of beds, tables and wardrobes where needed
- Items carried into the rooms you choose at your new home
- Full insurance from pickup to delivery
For larger houses we plan the load and number of trips in advance, or arrange a bigger vehicle when the job needs it.

Moving into Kilkenny city and county
Kilkenny city centre is beautiful but busy. Streets around High Street, Parliament Street and John Street are narrow, with limited parking and plenty of foot traffic, especially on weekends and during festivals. If you are moving into a city centre home, a weekday move is usually easier. Newer estates on the edges of the city, such as those off the Kilkenny ring road, are much simpler for a van.
Moving to a farmhouse or cottage in the county? Let us know about long lanes, narrow gates or soft ground so we can plan the approach.
Kilkenny's older terraced houses, particularly around the Butterslip and Irishtown, can have narrow front doors and steep staircases. Measure your larger pieces against the doorways at the new property if you can, and send us photos so we can plan which items to dismantle before we leave Dublin.
Small moves to Kilkenny
Not every move is a full house. We also bring single items and small loads down, such as furniture for a holiday home, a student heading to a new job, or a few pieces left behind after a bigger move.
