Whether you are starting first year, switching to a house share or heading home after exams, student moves DCU are what we do every September and May. Moving Service Dublin helps students and parents get belongings to and from the Glasnevin campus, the All Hallows and St Patrick's campuses in Drumcondra, and the private accommodation that surrounds them.
Our student moving service is designed for small loads, tight timings and student budgets, with a fixed price agreed in advance. See our services for everything else we do.
Where DCU students live and what that means for moving
DCU students are spread across a mix of housing, and each comes with its own moving quirks.
- On campus residences on the Glasnevin campus have set move in days, busy car parks and a lot of families arriving at once. Early slots are usually quieter.
- Purpose built student accommodation along Ballymun Road, Collins Avenue and in Ballymun has reception check in, lifts and loading areas that may need booking.
- Shared houses in Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Whitehall, Beaumont and Phibsborough are often red brick or older semi detached homes with on street parking and steep stairs.
If you are on the Drumcondra campuses near Croke Park, check whether there is a match or concert on your moving day. Event days close roads and make parking very difficult around Jones's Road and Clonliffe Road.
Typical DCU student moves
Most student moves are a car load that just will not fit in a car: suitcases, boxes of books, a desk chair, a bike, a mini fridge and bedding. Some students also bring a desk, a bed frame or a small sofa for a shared house. Our van handles all of that in one trip, with room to share between housemates.

Moving home at the end of term
When exams finish in May, everyone wants to move on the same few days. Book early if you can. We can collect from your accommodation in Dublin and bring everything back to your family home anywhere in Ireland as part of our long distance service, so you are not juggling buses with three suitcases.
Splitting a van with friends heading the same direction is a good way to keep it simple. Let us know all the drop offs when you ask for a quote and we will plan the route.
Quick tips for a smooth student move
- Pack in smaller boxes or sturdy bags, as heavy boxes are hard to carry up stairs
- Label anything shared with housemates so it ends up in the right place
- Check your accommodation's check out time and key return rules
- Defrost mini fridges the night before
- Keep your laptop, documents and chargers with you, not in the van
Book your DCU student move
Send us your pickup and drop off addresses, your preferred date and a rough list of what you are bringing. Parents are welcome to book on a student's behalf. We will reply with a fixed price quote, and everything is fully insured while in the van.
